Corian Material

Folks,

One of my Friend working in a plant produce a corian coutertop plate asked me what is the best production method to make a decorating shape (cutoff)
on a 600x600x7mm corian piece (20,000+ pcs) .
One of the consider method is using a CNC router but due to a limited time
and a low production cost they want, this method is not suitable. Also they tried a casting method but they did not succeed.
Have any of you had any experience with materials like this , any
suggestions?

Water jet would be your only other option if you expect special profiles with odd angles. The hourly cost for one of these is quite a bit more than a router though.

The material is very abrasive, but cuts decent with carbide. Cutter life will be your biggest issue, beside some sort of vacuum to pull the dust clear from the cutting area.

If there was a chance that the material could be cut partially through with the properly selected cutter and snapped\fractured apart with decent results, there could be some savings in cutting through. This may include some slight belt sanding work to clean up the edges.

Wear a face mask!

I was very surprised to see this material being cut with lasers. That can't smell very good!
