seco perfomax indexable drills

I was looking at trying one of these to drill a 1.250 hole. But all those that size have a 1.5 dia shank? Are these mainly for lathes?

Seco Drill

These drills can be used both on a machining center as well as a lathe. You may need to turn down the shank in order to mount it into CAT 40 EM holder. I would also look at Korloy Indexable drill. This has a very free cutting geometry and the inserts are reasonably priced.

Great tools.

They have one of the best cross sections of any drill on the market. I use them all the time for rough boring after drilling keeping tool changes down. The inserts hold up very well when doing this as well. We are drilling Titanium with 2" drills at 220 sfm at .01 per rev 6" deep and getting about 45 parts per corner.

Were you pre drilling before using the indexable drill. And who makes the drill and what was the rpm. I am currently having to do my first titanium job and the hole is blind at 5 and a half inches deep at 2.5 dia.

Never pre drill with an insert drill. They are made to self center and drill into solid material. I would give Ingersoll tools a try as well. We recently tested one vs a Seco drill in 304. The Ingersoll was a better drill...
