im a very new machinist....(been working four months) and i messed up some parts already... most expensive one beoing a 7500$ piece

lets just say i learned to make sure that when drilling blind holes make sure to measure twice , check your tool guards twice....and cut once.

so just wondering how much has been your most expensive mistake as a machinist?

every body make mistake. As long as u learn from u mistake and try to avoid it next time. be safe. the most expensive mistake as a machinist is to lose u body part. $7500 piece can be manufacture again but not u finger or hand or somthings esle. Cheers

Yep, everybody makes mistakes now and then. Just learn from it and go on because there's ohh so much more time to make all new mistakes. Keeping all your body parts is primary.

I think I got you beat in the cost department but it was the same type. Drilling about 16 equal spaced anti-rotation holes around the outside of a Low Pressure Turbine Nozzle for a large aircraft engine. Went too deep and the .125 drill point just started to peek into the airflow path. Really big OOPS. Were talking about a $50,000 oops.
