My boss (tight git) decided to buy 2 mazak q10 "old but working" he said and he was right on both parts. Well anyway not seen mazatrol before i'm used to g-codes with no training and no time he took orders for turning jobs within 2 weeks of machines being installed, I took to mazatrol like a duck to water with help from this site and a good cad program I have not failed a turning job. I can't though tap a hole without breaking a tap any ideas, and thanx for being there. |

| Are you using a rigid tap holder and not using a rigid tapping cycle on the machine? Other than tapping too far at once, with too small of a tap drill size, with not enough lubricant, in a blind hole that is too shallow, with a spiral point tap that is mounted off centerline, I don't know what the problem could be

What I tried was rigid tapping using single mode with a G4 dwell at the bottom and then reversing back out working out the speed and feed for the tap as I would for normally for the millers. The lathes are T1's we have no tapping heads as all our millers are rigid tapping, I must mention I only tried the method to see if it would work without buying a tapping head. Any help would be appreciated for i'm still learning what these machines can and cannot do. |
