too bad there are too many guys out there that don t understand this ,
ive worked with many guys that should have learned basket weaving instead ,
but then again that would mean being able to work with their hands

we've been in a big demand for good machinists and it seems the bad ones by far out weigh the good

My problem is I the basic skills, but not the paper that says that. And trying to find a job that fits my skill level and hours for finishing school is almost impossible. Biggest problem I am encounering is that most employers want workers that are 'plug and play'. And are not willing to invest in training to often.

That and the fact that I am 45 doesn't help either.

Well there is a small amount of training that goes with hireing anyone but yeah your right, take me for intance here not to long ago i need to hire some one and i really wanted to hire a good operator, the main reason is im so busy i really dont have time to train, Well guess what those guys that dont want to hire trainees will soon find out they are going to have to take the time and train them because there wont be any machinist left if they dont, and you know if you get a guy that is willing to learn it really dont take that long to get them on a good production path.

About 15 years ago I applied for a job as a "Machinist". I informed them on their application that I am a journeyman (completed state indentured apprenticeship) machinist. I specifically did NOT inform them that I have additional degrees and certifications. The response was I was over qualified. That was/is the buzz word for "too old". At the time I was 51. What I was looking for was health insurance as I was doing ME consulting at the time.

I thought this thread was about how wonderful we were, being machinist's
and all.Personally I think I'm worth one million dollars an hour.
I sure wish someone else did.
