| Sufrace Grinding I have two 1.25 thompson rails 43" long. Would like to use the accuracy of those to grind staight edges on 1/4" hot rolled steel. "On the cheap" I'm wondering with them temporarily mounted and using a bench grinder on a temporary gantry with the appropriate grinding wheel and clamping the hot rolled if I can get down in the .001 accuracy range? | I think it should work. Just make sure to take tiny cuts, probably about 0.0005" - 0.001" per pass. Most grinders I've seen operate wet, you might want to think about that, although it will be messy for a temporary setup. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
