I want to CNC laser cut the outside portion of a shape on a square piece wood or metal e.g the yellow area shown on the jpeg attached, and then transfer the material to a CNC router and finally cut the rest e.g the red area. Would this be possible? Basically, if I was to use a laser and then a CNC router to cut out the design would there be a problem getting the CNC router to start cutting in the right place. Also I have considered using a manual router. How easy would it be to router away the inner portion of the shape without accidentally moving into the white area. Either way, if I was to use a CNC router or did it manually, it would be OK to move into the yellow area because obviously this would have been laser cut already. This would allow for a reasonable margin of error when routing. Any idea if what I am suggesting is possible? |

| Depend how big the part is. I'd route the center and laser cut after, especially if the part is small. It could probably be done with a router only, but the small tips might give you problems with tearout if using wood. You could also route it by hand with templates and guide bushings.
