Is it possible to do knurling with a mini mill? I may need to do it on a round piece after shaping in a 4th axis operation, mounted in a rotary table. What about using the diamond pattern on a flat surface? Comments. |

| If you are planning to hold the knurling tool in a collet, be advised that the bearings (if held stationary) in a mill are TOTALLY unsuited as providing backup support if you plan to the spindle as a bench press to force the knurl into the part. Too much risk of brinnelling the bearings if you apply a huge load while they are stationary. A 4th axis spindle might be able to support the load but not the mill spindle bearings. |

With a 60 degree vee cutter you should be able to cut a knurl on either a round piece held in a 4th axis or on a flat surface; diamond, square or straight. |
