    Slotting 1095

I'm cutting out part blanks from .125" 1095 steel, prior to heat treating, on a Sherline benchtop mill, using an .093" 4 flute TiN coated carbide end mill. Could I get opinions, please, on the best feed rate, spindle speed, and depth of cut for these conditions?

    Thanks,
    Tom

You'll have better luck with a two flute. And you're going to get answers all over the map on conditions. I'd start at 3000 rpm, 4 ipm, 0.050 DOC. Just as soon as it starts running, I'd be trying to increase feed.

Thank you. Since the Sherline spindle speed is 3000 max, I'm limited by that (actually, measuring it with a laser tach it's around 2900).
