Raw Materials in Central Illinois??

I live in the Champaign Urbana area, and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to pick up raw materials (aluminum, stainless, free machining)? I have been ordering most of my supplies online 30-50 dollars at a time, and the shipping charge always annoys me. The idea of a 4 hour round trip to Chicago isn’t very appealing based on current gas prices.

I live in Barrington, a suburb of Chicago and don't know anyone local. Even if I did, I guess it wouldn't be much use to you...

they have 4 stores in the burbs, and the one in Elk Grove is pretty close to you.

Roll through any local industrial parks and see who fabricates or machines metal. Hit the back door and ask if you can go through their scrap bin. Bring a box of donuts with you. You'd be suprised how well this works.

There is a place that I go to when I'm up there, can't remember the name of the place. It's off of 74, several exits east of Prospect. It may be Pennsylvania? Go north about 1/2 mile and on the right side across from some kind of manufacturing plant there is a recycling yard full of all kinds of stuff.
