Dragon Puzzle Picture

These are the two best pictures that I could find on assemblying Dragon Puzzle. I have made it out of stainless steel before and worked pretty well. Have lots of patience doing this puzzle. It took me a long time to interpret the pictures that I could find. Figuring out which legs goes on which side is really tricky.

Yeah I nearly went mad assembling the raptor from a bad photo and the many combinations of the legs was the worst.

If your talking about the Dragon Puzzle, I think I nested it on a 11 x 14 Sheet of .060 (16 gage) Material. I am not at work to confirm this. You will probably need a laser or plasma cutter to cut this out the way it is. The spacing between parts is .25". I think the best material to cut this out is probably some type of balsa wood., where there is flexability to mate the pieces together. I made it out of .06" Stainless steel, and the pieces kept falling off if I wiggled it because .06 metal and the tabs are .06 gaps. If you decide to use different thickness material then you will need to scale the dxf up or down. If you want to use .125 material then you will need to scale the drawing by 2.083 (.125 / .06 = 2.083). With .06 material the dragon is approx 12" long by 6" high.

I don't know what to do if you want to cut it out of wood. I am a metal man myself, and there are way more qualified people to answer those question if you have any.

Good Luck,
Eric

common problem

I have been trying to convert the file below and have run into what I see as a common problem.

I have used vector magic and inkscape both to convert it with the same results. Many lines, particularly the lines around the croc head are very wide lines. When you convert the file, you end up with lines on both sides of these wide lines.

To me this looks poor, I know it doesn't look good when you cut it. On this file in particular I can't have that because I may engrave the croc head small also.

How do I get a good, crisp DXF here?

Gator Head

Is this more to your liking? I used Wintopo and one of its thinning methods to decrease the line thicknesses.Untitled-1%20copy.dxf

Thanks so much for your efforts. Not to be picky but what I was looking for was a single line in the middle of the two edges, a "stick font" version if you will. I achieved a similar result to what you did by using Photo2sketch on the original.

This is a common problem with conversions, I wish I could solve it.
