| We have just purchased a Mori Seiki NV5000 Alpha 20,000 Cat 40 Fanuc 18i with AI Nano (high speed contouring option, an absolute requirment for High feeds) 30 Tool changer (3 sec. chip to chip) 2 pallets (20 seconds chip to chip) 40" x 20" travel For us, we need the 20k RPM because we do a lot of small dia carbide end mill work. On the Mori the spindle is integral and there are no gears or belts. This means that there are no consequencial surface finish results on our parts. Believe it or not a gearbox (Kitamura) does not leave as good a finish as an inegral spindle (Mori). Just for your reference, without the Fanuc AI Nano or HPCC option for high speed feed rate compensation you cannot feed "smooth" faster than 200 ipm. The Mori has better acceleration than the Kitamura, I don't know about the OKK. For both Spindle and Rapids. Technically they run .23 G servo motors, I'm not sure but that means that the servos can reach full speed acc/dec in .23 seconds for all 3 axis. The spindle takes no longer than 2 senconds to reach 20,000. The Mori is the best IMO... Beautiful workmanship. I wish an American machine tool builder could compete. Oh well,
