Have you seen www.cncgunsmithing.com?
i was cruising the net the other day trying to find my next big project to machine and ran into this aluminum rifle. this is the coolest thing i have seen made on a cnc machine ever.im going to start designing my own version of this little wonder quite soon. i was wondering if we had any members that were experienced in the art of gunsmithing that could help me out with some pointers or give me a heads up on any problems i might have to think about in the design. ive included a link so everyone could see all the pics of this guys design. i have no intention of copying the design but it is what inspired me.

no doubt about that. i decided to buy a romanian ak47 and just use the reciever and barrel and machine the rest out of aluminum. i found the ak for 89 bucks on the web minus the disconector of course. i could care less if the thing ever sees the range i would just love to display it on the mantel. ill try to post some pics when i recieve my ak and start machining. once i get it drawn up i will post the .igs files as well so anyone else interested can try it out.

Those are some pretty nice weapons....how would you test the safetyness of such a weapon.....you know things like the strength of the bolt lock under various head pressures....etc.?
The super-nice CNC sniper rifle that was linked to in the original post is using pre-made Barrel and Actions (damn nice action at that!) - which is the only way I would do it too. Safest that way, imho.Originally Posted by ViperTX
No offense Turmite, but that AR15/M16 looking one is fugly. The linked one, judging by the parts he is using, should have amazing accuracy.

yeah the mechanics from the ak-47 should be plenty safe for the rifle. i plan on scraping the sight assembly on the ak and hiding the barrel and the all the mechanics in the cnc machined housing. only a trained eye will ever know it is an ak-47. just from looking into this project i found all kinds of interesting cnc made guns. the guy at cncgunsmithing.com really can do some tight machining. this is definetly a new hobby for me. this is something that can really test a machinist skills. i really wish now that i had some cam software cause im already getting a headache thinking about all the operations. maybe someone could suggest some cheap software for me to run.

Java ugly or not it was at one time considered by a branch of our own military's "special" group. I do not know if it was adopted or not. When you consider the fact that the one I posted is all cnc machined from billet aluminum, excluding the trigger group, barrel, bolt and carrier it is an amazing piece of work. That is not even considering the length of the .338 round that it feeds.
I have owned one of the smaller versions in .223 and it is flawless. Admittledly, it was better looking too!![]()
The "sniper" rifle is a neat package, but you are correct it is based on a single shot benchrest action. I have never seen the bolt knob style but I bet with a little digging I can find the brand. The neatest thing I like about the rifle is the sliding forend! Now that is unique and functional.
That gives me an idea~!![]()

True, a service weapon is a far cry from a pretty competition gun.Originally Posted by turmite

The action he is using is from Nesika Bay , and boy are they pricey. Looking at anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 just for the action.
That sliding front-end is brilliant, isn't it? The full lenght rail is sweet too. Really a nicely designed gun.
