Is 5052 alloy suitable for a small billet motorcycle wheel rim? I know most use 6061 T6, but I have access to 5052 and wondering about it. Made one already and seems fine, but not sure about the strength down the line, or problems with 5052 in particular, or how strength and stress cracking on it compare with 6061 T6.

Any advise?

Any comments on what other types of alloy would be suitable for a billet rim, or definitely to be avoided?

Finally, if I decided to cast the rim, what type of alloy is typically used? I imagine thicknesses must be increased when casting too.
