3D surface milling with Low Power CNC machine

    Hi guys!!!

I'am sorry if I posting my question in incorrect thread, but I have 1 question about 3D surface milling. It's possible to mill nice surface with Low power CNC machine (in this case HAAS VF2 - VF4 CNC VMC)? I'd like to Mill Brass with Sphere or Ball End mill but my CNC machine has max 7000-7500 rev. Sorry for my bad english.

I wouldn't think you would have any problems. I recently 3d machined a small picture frame using a 3/32 ball end at 5000rpm on a very small X2 type mill. It was roughed out of course first, but the intricate profiling was all done with the ball end.

You should be able to get a nice finish with that. A few things come to mind , is your cutter new ? How fast is the feed rate ? Did you try a bit of coolant or some other lube on the part ?

If you are using a ball nose end mill 7000 rpm will be fine just use .005 step over... nice finish.
