    Price for Aluminum

What do you guys pay for Aluminum? One of the metals dealers has a end cut bin here and is charging $3.25 a lb. Is this reasonable?

I was at my Metal Supermarket last week, and they wanted $3.00 a lb. I thought it was pretty expensive. I wanted a piece of 3/8" x 3" x 18" bar, and they wanted $20 for that, but he ended up giving me a 12" cutoff he had for $7. When I got home, I checked at http://www.onlinemetals.com and found they were more than 50% cheaper.

I ojnly needed a foot, and the $7 was OK. I'll remember to check there next time, though.

Yeah, it was worth $7, especially when it's needed it right away, then it is more about filling the need then saving a few bucks.

OBTH that worked out to be $5.32 a pound

The $3/lb box was full of thin diamond plate.

Here in Buenos Aires, 6061 goes around $6/kilo and 7075 $14/kilo retail. Most other common alloys are around $6-$10

    BTW, 1 lb = 0.454 Kg

My last trip a few weeks ago to Capitol Metals in Tempe, Arizona the remnants were priced at $1.50/lb. Maybe they have too much and were trying to uload it quick. I just bought a 12 foot length of 1.5" dia round 6061 for $66.05. According to the shipper, it weighs 25 lbs so that works out to $2.64/lb

    I feel lucky

$1/pound. ANy aluminum, any size, $1 per pound.
ANd stainless works out to be the same because they charge 1 buck a pound for anything shiny

    Phantom,

I dont suppose youre willing to share the source?

I pay $3/lb for small quantities. The place I go charges $3/lb for any metal. They have brass, stainless, cast iron, copper, etc. That is their "offcut" area but you can get almost anything you need up to about 12x12x12". They also have a full stock out back and you can order what you need. Its nice going and asking for 20' of 2" OD 0.75" ID 6061 and they say "sure let me just get someone to cut that for you"

Mike, it looks like you are in luck. It says your in greater boston area, im in New Hampshire. The place is called Harding Metals, they are the largest metal recycling facility in New England. 99 acres i think.
Its in Northwood, the place is very relaxed. Most of the time i dont even pay 1 buck a pound, they just round it down. Somehow once they did not even charge the rate they usually do and i got 15 pounds for 4 dollars.
