    Making serrated teeth on metallic surface

    Dear All

    I need to find a way to make the serrations on the metallic surface similar to the attached. Pls clarify the procedure and machines.

    In the part pictured, it is fairly easy. Use a 90 degree tool, such as an engraving tool. Machine 45 degree lines at the needed pitch distance apart, at a depth that will result in the amount of pointing of the teeth desired. Measure from root to root or crest to crest to obtain the pitch distance.

    There are serration milling cutters similar in appearance to gear hob cutters. I used them in the past to serrate the teeth in the face of sealing dies for packaging machines.

    Add: I "googled" serration cutters. There are many Chinese and Indian suppliers listed.

    Would you pls clarify the rule of the knurling tool for my surface. I have never seen any knurling tool for flat surface upto now. Do you have any link about them?
