Easy tool height for straight shank tools

This has probably been done before, but I wanted a way to preset my tool heights without buying the tormach holders. My most commonly used bits are 3/8 shank, so I used shaft collars set at 1" from the tip. I try to buy my tooling with the same cut length so they can be used like this. Like I said, I'm sure it's been done before but I figured I'd share.

Oh and I have a max of 2400 rpm so the balance isn't an issue. They do make balanced ones though.

I've been using a shaft collar like that in a 3/4 shank tool in my tormach for a few months now, and it's yet to slip or give me repeatability errors. Granted, with that tool I might not see a few thousandth error, but good enough!

I did that for my pnuematic spindle.works great.

if you have no plans of ATC then the Smithy Knock Offs of the TTS are outstanding and about $15 a piece. Owning many of both I can say they are identical to the pre-atc tormach tts set screw holders.
