    Box Section cutting

I'm having a job cutting the 3mmx25mm box section,I'm using my angle grinder with supposedly cutting disc for metal.

Its cutting through but its taking a bit of time and I have to put a good pressure on the grinder which is heating the metal up to a burning orange and I don't want this heating up of the metal which I need to keep to a minimium.

The disc are cheap so will that have a bearing on it?

    You got that right,Kevin.
Although the disc say for cutting metal I think they labelled them wrong ie they are grinding disc because I went out and bought new cutting disc and it cuts the box section quite easily now.

For cutting you want the type of wheel for the metal you are cutting, I'll assume you are talking steel. Then you want the thinnest wheel you can find, like .040" (1mm) or so is what I use on my 4.5" grinder. Cuts like butter. The thicker the wheel, the more metal you are removing so it will be slower and hotter.

For envy, go to google or youtube and look up cold saws!!! Would be a nice tool to have.

I bought a cold saw a couple months ago. Worth EVERY PENNY, and it wasn't all that expensive. Here is the one I got:

    Thinner the better!

A Mitre saw will work like a charm on aluminum. The speed is much to fast for steel and it will immediately destroy the blade. A cold saw runs at a much slower speed so that the blade lives.

The link in Mcphill's post is NOT a cold saw. That is an abrasive chop saw. It is basically just a mitre saw with no plastic on it so nothing catches fire. That type of blade (abrasive) will work just fine in your mitre saw, the speed is correct and everything.

    THIS IS A COLD SAW!

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I didn't look at the link earlier so I didn't realize it wasn't an actual cold saw. The cold saw uses the same speeds as machining so look at the surface speed of a 10 or 12" diameter blade. It has to go pretty slow.
