These guys make some good knurles...should find what you need.
I seen a 1 inch nut that was knurled in stainless steel. The knurl was so definded that it looked honey comb. Is there a knurling tool one could buy that will give this effect.I have a convensional knurl tool, mounted on a aloris holder, but it will not knurl as definded as what I seen.

I guess that is the problem, knowing what I need. On a convensional lathe, knurling on the O.D.,using a diamond style knurl what would you suggest to get a deep knurl with less pressure possible.
Larry,
Straddle type will give you the least presure..you can use one right and and left diagonal knurl to get a diamond pattern..
The bump style are the simplest and the least expensive..and you can get single diamond knurls for this style holder..
Take a read thru that link above..there is lots of info about knurling and also info about different style knurls and holders..
Knurling is as much an art as it is anything..getting the right speed and feed and knurl size in comparison to the work size and material..

i think what you want is cut knurls vs the regular way which displaces the material. on the above link, click on cut knurls. the 'setup' ink within cut knurls is also good. at $475 US, if you are a home shop type, consider making this yourself. I haven't done so, but John S., who I've seen here, made his own - iirc beside a holder, you just take regular straight knurls and grind them flat to remove the chamfer on the edge. Maybe John will see this and elaborate
thinks for the information,I will look at the link and see if I can get a tool to produce a better knurl.
