    fine boring heads

Anyone care to discuss the ups and downs of fine boring heads?

Is there a brand that is better than another?
these would have to be the "tenth" set type.

    hole tolerances around .0004

range from 1/2 to 4" diameter.

And what is it with the shanks?
Komet has a "KA" shank and it seems the standard is abs ??

looking at Kaiser or Techniques. But would be open to others.

This may be a bit of overkill, but I saw a boring head with a built in digital read out adjustable in microns (.000039"). This was at a tool show in Milwaukee in early October.

I imagine it is quite expensive.

Wohlhaupter has those digital boring heads and they are nice. And expensive.

    And worth it.

When you insist upon the best, that or the Walter-labeled version (exact same thing) is the way to go.
