    Anodizing setup

Hey needed help setting up my Hyelec hy3020E. It didn't come with a manual so I was wondering about the wire setup. There are 3 wires. Positive negative and ground. Any help will be grateful appreciated. Thank you

My interpretation is that the green terminal may be a chassis connection.

For your purposes, I would ignore the green terminal, and instead just use the red terminal for + and the black terminal for -. You could optionally connect the black terminal to the green terminal.

That interpretation is based on my reading of the schematic at http://www.multimeterwarehouse.com/P...ply/HY3020.pdf (which may be for the identical power supply).

You should be able to verify that suggestion by using a multimeter to read the voltage between the red and black terminals.

I was reading up and I seen that some said the positive goes to the aluminum wire holding the part and the negative fgoes to te cathodes. I just bought the machine and disnt want to mess anything up with any wrong connections and didn't know if it would work properly if it wasn't grounded.

It should work fine that way.

Some people might suggest using the optional connection of the negative terminal to the chassis ground out of safety concerns, and I probably wouldn't dispute that, except to note that if you're going to be touching the cathode of an anodizing tank full of sulfuric acid, you likely have greater concerns than whether or not it is grounded.

I'm just curious - what does your anodizing setup look like? Have you put it together as a pure DIY effort, or are you using a kit from a place such as Caswell, or something else?

I've been meaning to set up my own hobby anodizing line, so I've been gathering parts for it, including a humongous HP power supply, but it's a lower priority for me than completing the setup of my home machine shop, which is somewhat overdue...

I actually just started grabbing stuff for this setup. I bought the hy3020E rectifier made by Hyelec from a guy off craigslist for 250. I bought 26 colors of die for 50 from him and there like 11 dollars a piece. He bought it to do paint ball guns but never did it. I got the battery acid in a 5 gallon bucket for 22 dollars and and going to hater a hot plate to heat the dye, and aquariums for the acid, also I work in a steel mill and my buddy works in a factory to get me cathodes out of aluminum molds. I will post pics and make a video when I'm done to show you how I have it. That way if you have any questions u can ask I'll gladly help. I also customized a powder coating oven. It's about 7 feet long by 3 feet wide and high. I have a slide show and video under construction. It's completely done it works great. I will work on my setup tomorrow and show you what I have.
