The Erickson tool holder looks like an R8 - ER collet chuck.

The first one kinda looks like a knurling tool for a screw machine or turret lathe.

Buy me a Beer?

The first one has what looks like an acorn threading die and the tool itself I think goes one direction down and unthreads pulling up.

Ya, looks like an old threading tool for a old cam type swiss machine.

So should I call it a threading head?

Hold on.
That first tool...are there thread forms that would run over the outside of the part, as in a die head? It does not look to me like a collapsing die head.

Without seeing the face of it up close and in detail, it almost looks like a O.D. turning tool that is adjustable. 4 insert tools, each cuts on the face, but they are set in unison to a desired diameter that is generated as the tool feeds into the material from the end. That is a very common practice in screw machine work.

The second tool does look like a Quik Switch R8.

I'll go out to the shop and get some better pics of the front of it.

It still looks like some kind of threading die. The tool locks in place when in the down position and then if you pull up it only locks in the reverse direction and free spins in the other direction. Heres some more pics. Thanks again for the help.

Thumbs up

It's been many moons ago when I was first exposed to the B&S single spindle screw machines. I think that 'chasing head', will also go over the turned dia. and collapse on the way out. Some were collapsed on the way in, turning clockwise; then open, to back out of the cut. very nice, heavy duty chasing heads, I think.

I had more years experience on the big ol multi spindle screw machines, mostly 2,4,5,6,8 spindles. Still love those ancient behemoths.
