I want to remove the threading from a three inch section of 0.5 inch Acme 10 TPI rod. It seems that I saw a posting somewhere regarding this. At the present, I am thinking of trying to turn the threads down to the base portion of the rod stock by slow light cuts due to the interupted nature of the threads. Is there an approach that someone might recommend who has experience with this? Rick Kernell |

| if you have a solid machine with carbide tooling its very easy. you run the screw fast enough to "fake out" the tooling ie make the tooling think its a solid pc. if you run too slow even on a olid machine your machine will shake , if you can speed it up while running you will see the difference. we run interupted cuts all the time and we always have to run as fast as we can, it cuts alot smoother that way. In thinking about it I am thinking that running faster keeps the load on the tool constant were running slower lets the tool relax back to its natural state. ( makes sence to me lol) Delw |
