Looks like a hydraulic (or air) cylinder, minus the end cap and gland.

Aparently obviously that it stores some gravity and takes up space. Proof that UFO's can be profitable, only the acronym definition is different!

That description puts it in the catagory of a "thingy that goes on a whachamacallit".

You'd think a faint clue may be in the blue script at each end of the shaft?

I copied the picture to enlarge and sharpen it up a bit, I can see why the dark picture. Still not sure what it is but I think I know what you would be if you bought it
