Hello....noob facing question here...bare with me.... Running Fadal 4020HT....10k rpm, 20hp. Bt40 holders. I have a 12 x 12 x 2" thk A-36 plate that I need to square and face. The plate is flame cut and has rough edges all around... I am wondering what cutters to use in squaring and facing. I have pockets to do and have an SGS Z-Carb AP cutter 3/4" for roughing and finishing the pockets.... I am not sure what to use for facing - indexable cutter? What brand would be ok for someone who isn't doing full production constantly? Also - do I have to worry about "hardening" due to flame cutting process or should that not really concern me? Would I use an indexable cutter to face all the flame cut faces? Thanks and any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! |

| 4" face mill with indexable inserts,( I like sandvik but any quality ones will work) for the sides a 3/4" solid carbide 4 flute 2.5" in length, but first on the sides clean them up with junk endmills and just offset the cuts to the side a tad as you go deep so you dont rub the non cutting part of the endmill. then take your 3/4 dia endmill and run a finsh pass, this way you dont screw it up on the interrupted flame cuts then suface grind the top or lap it |
