Spoilboard Material Suggestions | | Hi all; try and try again, I've been unable to remove the spoilboard from my jig designs and I'm OK with this. But I do believe I can improve on the spoilboard itself. I just wanted to know what spoilboard material you guys are using. I've been using various types of wood but it's polluting my coolant with sawdust and they break down too quickly. I basically get one or two sets of parts with a single spoilboard. Now they are cheap as it costs me about $12 for 16 of em (Lowe's hates it, but I have them cut the boards on their panel saw.)
I'm looking for something between 1/8" to 1/4" thick, dimensionally stable to temperature/humidity, and that will hold up to coolant and lots of repeated use. Finally, I need it to be accurate in it's thickness - the wood is a bit inconsistent (0.005 or so at least) and I'd like it better than that.
So with all that said, my best bet appears to be a phenolic sheet or another piece of metal. Anyone have any suggestions on other materials or the grade of phenolic I should use? Thanks much!
