    Cutting 4mil 316SS

I need to cut 4mil 316SS into a small shape as shown in the attachment. It is 9/16" wide x 5/8" high. The slot is approximately 1/12" wide. I already have some 6" wide 4mil thick material.

Any suggestions on high I can machine this by hand out, possibly with a hand held dremel tool or something like that.

If one had access to the most appropriate CNC equipment to cut this shape out of this stock, what would that equipment be, EDM?

All I have at my disposal at the moment is a manual mill. Working on my CNC conversion.

    Regards,
    Chris

A laser would have that thing off the table in a couple of seconds. Laser is the way to go.

Manually - the only tough part would be that radiused hump. Without interpolation, I am guessing that is going to be the tough feature. I see a bit of manual shaping coming into play...

    Thanks Scott,

Any one out there with a laser table that would like to take on cutting 10 or so of these pieces out of some 6" wide 4mil 316SS stock that I have? The sheet of stock I have is currently 50" long. I can give you the outline in DXF or DWG or a 3D part in STEP, STL, IGES, etc.

Let me know how much you would do it for, since there is not much I could offer in trade.

If there are any takers you could email me at cjwescott@earthlink.net.

    Regards,
    Chris

    ChrisJ -

I can get them done for you, but you will likely be better served just checking your local area for a laser cutter and asking for a quote. I live in Virginia but I have contracted out to companies in Texas and New Jersey (I don't know which exit, sorry ).

They will likely not care about your material - they would probably prefer to quote the entire job unless there is something special about your stock....it's like going to Starbucks and asking for a cup of coffee made from your beans....kinda...
