Does anyone have experience withe Royal quick change system for the R-8 spindle. I have a Tormach mill with the TTC tooling setup but the tools slip in the holders as soon as the going gets a little hard. Looking for options over the R-8 holders. Thanks, |

| I have used it at work at a previous Job, works very well. Actually better then what I thought it would just looking at it. Only draw side is they are very expensive. Just wondering you where using the Tormach tooling system and the Tools slipped in the Holder? Seams odd is this not a Setscrew holder? I was thinking it may be more likely for the Holder to slip out of the 3/4 inch collet. How are you tightening the Drawbar? |

| Torsten, You are correct the holder wants to slip out of the special R-8 collet. They have a bushing that is supposed to take up some of the deflection but it ultimately allows for movement. We are using a wrench to tighten the draw bar. Perhaps torquing to a specification would help. The Royal system looks pretty solid. The Tormach machine is beefy but to my thinking the Tormach Tooling System is the weak point. |

| I have the royal one on my hand mill and have had it on there since 1996-9 running carbide endmills under 3/16 and light cuts there great. Carbide endmills bigger than 3/16 tend to chatter too much in this system due to the rigidity of the carbide. I can run a highspeed steel 3/8 endmill with no problems 1/2" is pushing it as I get chatter agaiin. I never popped a 3/16 or under holder out but have popped plenty of 3/8s and 1/2" holders out. If you have slop in your x or y axis when climb milling DONT buy the system as you will be popping the holders out alot. I learned that the hardway when the gibs in the machine wore down. for drilling there fantastic which is what I bought it for. I have 6 chucks all for different drill sizes and center drills. forgot to add, NOTHING beats a R-8 collet for rigidity/concentricty in a R-8 Machine Delw |
