Anyone ever have copper mold tooling welded

Just wondering if anyone has ever gottent copper mold tooling Amcoloy or Berryllium welded. The vendor we alwys dealt with always had to put tremendous amounts on to give us what we needed. He stated it was because of the heat required to weld the material.

The other week I started using a new vendor for welding. He told me he is able to weld copper the same as tool steel. Meaning he can add small amounts. I'm supposed to recieve parts back today. Just wondering what experiences others have had.

Previous vendor totally unpleasant to deal with

Recently started new job at an injection molding firm. We do molding as well as maintain tooling. Today we got back some mold tooling we had sent out for welding. After looking it over I realized some areas had to be welded had been missed. I called the vendor whom I don't want to name, but will say they are located in Erie,Pa. I'm assuming the person I spoke with was one owners. I started to explain my situation and was promptly stopped. His exact words were "You screwed up and didn't mark the areas. We'll fix it but not for free and if you don't like it, tough s--t, because it is what it is.

After hanging up I went to my boss, whom had dealt with this company before. I told it what had happened and he laughed it off and said they're like that to everyone. I asked him why we still send them work and he replied "I don't know"

Just wandering if anyone else has had this experience and how a company like this can keep customers.

Thanks

Our first job with new vendor

Wanted to let you guy's know I got parts back from our new welding vendor.
I think they did a very nice job and were much nicer to deal with than previous service in Erie, Pa. I added a few pics. To top it off they were considerably lower in price and did the job on a Saturday and overnighted back to us for Monday morning. So long Erie microwelders.

Nice work, can't believe anyone would talk to customers that way in this economy when every relationship is precious. I would seriously somehow try to spread the word about these As$#les. Always nice to find a new vendor that does a good job.

Well, I wouldn't talk to any company like that, but if you missed marking it and they quoted you for the work that was marked, what do you expect? I'm sure not going to work for free, but I don't know what kind of business arrangements you had with them so I can't really judge you or them on that. No doubt it sounds like they are rude a$$holes who don't appreciate your business at all, you moved on and maybe they will learn there lesson..

Got copper parts back from new welding vendor added a few pics

Wrote a post a little while back about a rude vendor who was doing our microwelding. Posted some pics of the first job they did which was really nice.

So the other day my boss came up to me and said. That new place where you sent our last job to be welded. Let's see how good they really are. Send them these Beryllium copper cores. In the past each shop would complain about welding them.

I got the cores back yesterday and showed them to my boss. I think he was pretty impressed. He said the other place had basically globbed the material on. I think that was his way of letting me know I had his approval on switching vendors.

I think they came out pretty good
