Hi everyone, I have a hss 3" dia, 32 teeth, .125" thick slitting saw. The saw is staggered tooth and had side-milling on every other flute. I am going to cut a slot in a part that is made from 12L14 steel with a flood of coolant. The slot is about 1" DOC, at the deepest, on a 1.5625" radius. Therefore the cut is not very long, maybe 1.5" long. I am just wondering what i should be running for feeds and speeds? Also climb or conventional cut? Multiple passes or full depth? Thanks for the help in advance. Very much appreciated! |

| 100 sfm is very conservative and safe, 130 sfm if you plan to stay on the lower side of the cutting depth. That said, I'd go with 130 sfm and 4 passes or .250 radial depth per pass. Go .0012-.0015 inch/tooth... again, use the lower side for deeper radial, higher side for lighter radial. The chips should be no darker than a light straw color. 12L is a nice cutting material, pretty easy on saws... unlike many other materials. edit: Conventional milling Best regards, Chuck
