We have large quantity of holes on Exchanger tubesheet... Recently i have converted the Radial drill into CNC and drilled the holes.. But how can we groove each hole? You can see the drawing..I am using Visual Mill 6...

| Hi Dick Z ![]() Thanks for response.. I thought the tool should be like boring bar, with center entry into the hole..reach at specified depth then eccentric and make groove of specified depth... We have grooving tools at our plant but we use them manually.. I just want to know how the CNC people doing with 1000 of holes grooving with CNC alone.. By the way interesting website..By the way, interesting website thanks for sharing

| Khalid, You could use a tool similar to a woodruff key cutter, circular interpolate the grooves. However, that will take more time. The Cogsdill tools can cut more than one groove at the same time. As usual, what costs more, time or tooling? Dick Z add: The Cogsdill tools work fine with CNC, just a straight Z move down, slight dwell then retract. Been done many times on boiler tube plate and hydraulic valve bodies.

| See post #4 above. Have your tool move into the hole (Z-axis down) on the hole center to the proper depth. Move the cutter in an arc till it reaches diameter you want, interpolate a complete circle. Bring the cutter back to center and retract or move to another depth and cut another groove. Be sure to always move back to center befor moving in Z-axis. Dick Z
