Group Mini Canon Thread

OK, everyone agrees they need to do this next.

Please post your pics and videos here.

If you get hurt, don't go after CNCZONE, as they do not condone this behavior. Do get pictures of the carnage. Do not shot animals of any kind with it, unless that animal is you. If you are under 40, please get supervision by your wife or a parent.

Build threads or specs, like hole sizes (fuse hole, bore, OD, etc.) would be great.

Please no competition, we don't want anyone blowing up a cannon trying to fill it half full of powder! Please no high caliber, BB's only. There might be legal issues. If there are legal issues with the small ones, please speak up gunsmithys, so we can drop the idea.

Mods if this is bad, please lock it rather than delete, at least for a few days. Then everyone can meet at 2guyz.info and I'll try to setup so you don't have to join the forum. Or PM me, fellow canon building maniacs.

LOL, I was part of a "Pirate group" that hung out at Ren Faire and drank too much. Once, during a group campout they had a canoneer(sp?) who brought a few small sample "rail guns" with him.

We had a pledge system where we tortured newbies for a year and called them "Step -N- Fetches" and made them.... well, step and fetch stuff.

Two funny things happened.... one, they fired wadding at a tree they had been firing at all morning with regular pistols and some black powder guns and the tree fell. (With no contact) Kind of classic, I thought.

The second was when they had a miss fire and after discussing the dangers involved with that the Commodore calls out "Steeeeeeep NNNNNNN Feeeeeetttcccchhhhh!!!"

[Edit] Ohhh, and on the canon build... I have no idea what safety protocols are necesary so I'll be passing.

how specific of a build does this "cannon" need to be? I made one when i was at sioux tools / snap-on that is 3/5 dia. od by 12" long 12L14, with 1.5" bore by 11", with a simple 1/16" side drilled hole for fuse. We take it with us up the river whenever we go boating, when we dock on a sand bar. it doesnt have a base, we just sink it into the sand about an inch. we could use golf balls for projectile, but lean against the idea since projectiles could be dangerous. We use triple F gunpowder, plastic shopping bags for wadding, and a uhmw post for packing. it will sink 6 inches into the sand easily per shot. we also had it chrome plated and polished since it was first made, since my brother started working at a hydraulic cylinder shop.

Too funny Troy!

Shane, this thread was moved, and started out as a reference to the canons in this thread: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109997

I don't care what type of cannon you post if you know what you're doing, I just didn't want one of us amateurs to make a 50 cal and have the ball drop on the table and the cannon fly back and take out their nuts. So, post what you do!

My first machining project was a cannon of this type.

Freshmen at RPI all had to take the machine shop class, which taught basic machining by having us make this cannon.

I lost mine. I think I left it behind in my dorm room. If I'm going to make another firing cannon, it's going to be based around the RPI cannon design. I have the plans around here somewhere...

Are there any kind of prints or sketches available? I know nothing of guns or calibers but am interested in making one of these.

Hi Mike,

I have not seen plans for the tiny one that shoots BBs, shown on youtube in the thread that inspired this: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109997

I think that type of canon could be made without plans, as long as a barral is very thick as in the video. The BB's caliber is .177". If you look around a tthe youtube videos, there's one that shows how to load it and they use bottle rocket fuses.
