Is this cut possible?

I'm new to machining, but I've been working on a design that I intend to build once I've got enough money to buy my own milling machine. One idea I'm tossing around seems that it would require a hole to be drilled along the same axis as the rotation of the drill, but offset a bit in order to fit the cutter in the tight spot. This might clarify things:

Would this be possible, or should I start looking at a different way to get this working?

Buy me a Beer?

Could you turn the piece over and drill it from the bottom?

No, there is more metal down there that would block its path. I just didn't draw it out in my sketch.

It seems like I will have to do something like that, but for the sake of simplicity would rather keep it as one part.

Hi

You may find that the by the time you fit the drive mechanism for the off set drill and make it robust enough to stop the drill from flexing that the capabilities of reach will be severly limited.

If I had to get such a hole produced I would perhaps spark erode it; saying that angled power drills do exist but the hole drilling capabilities are limited.

Or drill thru the area above and plug it after the drilling operation if that is feasible.

The problem with that is your clearances and you won't have enough stroke most likely to make it to your full depth.

The best way of designing a part or piece of equipment is to try to get away from having to use odd/special equipment or tooling. That's where the real challenge is .

Best regards
