    Recycling 5C Collets

    Hi all,

Is there any company that recycle small diameter 5C collets and rectify it to a larger diameter or something? I'm in charge of a manufacturing area that uses a lot of those collets that ends in the trash after a couple of months. The largest diameter I use is about 5mm so there is plenty to rectify.

Are only the bore sizes worn? Do the outer contact/closing surfaces also need to be renewed? Internal threads for stops etc.

Are the sizes needed in nominal .5 mm increments? That is, if a collet were originally 3mm, do you also use 3.5 mm sizes? The steps could be more or less, but significant material removal adds to the rework time.

    Regards

    Cal

I think I read in a brochure a while ago that Hardinge reground used guide bushings that you sent them. Maybe they do the same for collets?

    Thaks for the replys guys.

Dan, the wear is mostly in the bore size. The increments that I use are a few tenths (.0001).

Ext59, I'll chek their site. Due to our quality policies it is probable that we are not able to re-work them and so I was thinking like someone that bought them to re-sell them.
