    Exclamation .0014 UNDERSIZE

    I HAVE A PROBLEM THE BALLSCREW IN OUR LATHE IS BAD WHICH WE ARE FIXING.THE BALLSCREW HAD GONE OUT AND IT JUMPED .0015 AFTER TURNING IT .0001 ON THE HAND WHEEL.THE PART WE CUT IN IT IS .0014 SMALL IN DIAMETER.I NEED TO FIND A CHROME SHOP TO FIX THIS AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY INFORMATION ON ONE.ANY OTHER IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

    Buy a new ball screw or have yours reground and new proper size bearings installed.
    YOU CAN NOT HARD CHOME A BALL SCREW AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER hoping it will work cause it wont, you will have more problems than you think.


    you may want to check your backlash setting on your lathe, also check for any play in the machine axis as it might be the gibbs and not the ball screw.

    oops sorry, I may have miss read your part, are you wanting to hard chrome the ball screw or the part?

    if its the part and the fix is ok per customer, you can grind plate grind.


    just call a grinding shop I am sure they know of servises avail in your area. if not you can try Osborn pruducts in phx az

    For undersized parts we use this guy http://www.o-e-m.net/. Works good.

    Its the part that is under size we are working on replacing or rebuilding the ballscrew.

    You should also consider electroless nickel plating. The thickness can be controlled so that you won't need to grind.
