Go with Makino, Mazak is a great machine but it has it own world and I don't like, especially the control interface hard to use, it's gettign annoy when setting up.
Getting great deals on both machines but leaning towards the Makino even though we never have had one in the shop. Any input would be appriciated.

The best way to learn is trial error.
Not exactly apples to apples..but hard to do with machines. I would go with Makino with those two choices.

You won't go wrong with either...I would use service reputation in YOUR area to break the tie. Mazak's service happens to be wonderful here...but I can only vouch for my location.
I disagree with the comment regarding the difficulty with the Mazak control...there is no way I would discount Mazak because of user interface.
I've used most of them and while they all have their advantages and disadvantages, I think Mazak may have one of the best all around user interfaces. If you get a probe with the machine, Renishaw has a very well developed software interface for Mazak controls.

My shop has just purchased a v56 makino, after shopping and comparing the biggest determiner was the support after the sale by makino. They dont just drop the machine of and say here ya go.
