phaze inverter

I have a friend with a home machine shop. He has a bridgeport and a 7.5 horsepower lathe (both 3 phaze). He currently has a rotary phaze inverter, but is unhappy with the amount of power that is wasted when the mill or lathe arn't running. He would like to upgrade to a digital inverter, does anyone use one of the $270.00 units like the ones in MSC catalog? Or are one of the $2500.00 necessary?

Any reviews, or links to US suppliers/dealers would be much appreciated.

Buy me a Beer?

If you want to do it right get a Phase Perfect, I would not go the MSC way unless you are talking about a VFD which you would need 1 for each machine

The phase Perfect will give you perfect 3phase power out & they are around 98% efficent The Phase Perfect is the only Digital phase converter that is being made 220 single phase to 220 3 phase

The VFD drives are also very efficent, Take more to set up & need shielded cables if you do it right

thanks,
He is not looking at variable frequency drives. He needs an efficient and reliable digital phaze inverter for running his old 220V 3 phaze motors with The available residential 220V single phaze power supply.
How much are the phaze perfect inverters you are talking about. Surely there is more than one manufacturer of these.

There is only one, Phase Perfect they have the patent for this, & are not cheap I just put one in 96amp output it was $6,200 but it is worth the money, a 10hp one should do for your set up I think some were round $2600 not sure give them a call

thanks Mactec, your help is well appreciated. I am surprised to hear these are a proprietary design. With all the joes out there with equipment in their garages, you would think that there would be more than one digital solution, (aside from the rotary type.) I think the phase perfect unit will suit his needs well, Not having his rotary unit running constantly will cut his power consumption considerably.
