    Need Vise recomendations

I am on a modest budget and am looking to start purchasing tooling. I am looking for a good versatile vice for my cnc mill. Obviously Kurt and Chick are two big names but they also have bigger price tags. I am a hobbyist but would like to invest in good equipment instead of purchasing junk. Can anyone recomend a particular brand, size, place to purchase etc. for a mill vise?

I have an expensive Kurt vise (purchased new) and honestly are not so impressed. The fixed jaw lifts excessively making precision work difficult. So I wouldn't be so terribly concerned about buying a different brand.

Whatever you get though, make sure its jaws match the standard size of the Kurts, because eventually you will end up cutting into the jaws by accident and you may want to replace them.

Glacern machine tools, which advertises on this forum, has some nice looking vises for what looks like not too much money. I don't know anything about them, but I'd say its worth looking into.

I have a Kurt 688 and have been happy with its performance. I went to an open house a couple months back and there were several Chick products I would certainly check out if I were buying today. Buy something nice and you won't be sorry. A vise gets used almost every time you use your mill, junk will frustrate you every time. Don't ask how I know.....
