King Tools Canada - Protest

I purchased the King Tools 14 x 40 lathe approximately 4 months back, due to lack of funds did not get the taper attachment.

Finances have improved, so I made a call to the dealer in Morden Manitoba, he placed the call to King Tools to order the attachment, King told him that the only way they would sell the taper attachment is pre installed on a new purchase.

If King Tools feels that we're to stupid to install the taper attachment then it should be mandatory to have this as part of the lathe when sold.

Let us email Ted with our concerns of improper sales notification of what should be purchased at the time a lathe is ordered, or you'll be forever SOL for obtaining the attachment from King Tools Canada.

KTC on their website do not inform you of this. Maybe enough of us 14 x 40 owners get together for a class action suit.

I sent an email of to King Tools Canada, here is the reply I received from Ted Fuller tfuller@kingcanada.com

Ted Fuller Reply:
This is true. Our experience has taught us that the taper attachment cannot
be installed in the field - and are quite complicated to line up and get
just right. So, we only sell them installed on the lathe right from the
factory.

That is too bad they have to be like that. the good thing about having machine tools is you can make anything you want. try to make your own. could be a fun project.

If you bought the machine new, you might have a parts manual that shows the cross slide assemblies with and without a taper attachment. If so, get the part numbers for everything yours doesn't have and order them....or make them.

If that's not feasible because a machine with a factory installed taper attachment has a completely different cross slide and a different parts book, you could be screwed. Perhaps you can find a way to connect with the owner of a machine like yours that has a factory-installed one so you can see the difference. Ask the dealer for a contact? If that works out, you'd soon know from looking over the machine or its books just how much work and how many different parts are involved.

I purchased a manual 12x36 gear head lathe from King Canada, on the opposite end of the spindle from the chuck had an internal thread. When I called King, they denied ever building a lathe with an internal thread in the spindle. After many emails and pictures I was finally told that a few of that model lathes were built with with a 42mm x 1.5 thread, but no one knew what purpose it was for. All I wanted to know was what size thread it was so I could make a collet closer. Not too swift those people.

I purchased a 12X36 just a month ago with a stand, my machine also has the internal thread at the opposite side of the chuck, this machine is all metric,
Thanks for the info about the 42mm x 1.5 thread.

Anyway, my machine came with no manuals and no screws for the stand or what so ever, I don't even know the info about what oil I'm I supposed to put in the gear boxes.
not so happy so far...

I have a question, I'm in a process of lifting the lathe to put it on the stand but I have been looking and thinking and don't know how?
Should I use acouple of straps one on the chuck and other at the opposite side?

I can't find info on how to lift the machine properly anywhere....

thanks
