Just curious, do you want to make parts or just make a machine?

Anyone buying a Haas machine in the UK who registers it with Haas uk gets a phone call....then a visit from one of their tech engineers.....they offer to supply you with free manuals to complete the part set you have and give advice on how to get the best from the machine!

And they delivered all this for free!! on a VF-O bought on ebay.. Amazing service

I could become a fan

i am going to be making parts, but im going to build this then solid enough to machine steel, so i can build a bigger better machine. the spindle is the biggest problem i have. id like to build one like in the above video.

Then BUY a machine! While I admire the scope of the project in the video, it won't remotely compare to a five axis machine that comes from a reputable machine tool builder. (in accuracy, repeatability, rigidity, speed, power, reliability, ease of use, or production capability)

If you go down this road, I promise that you won't be making good parts on it anytime soon. I think building a machine is a nice hobby and a great learning experience, but that is about it. It will be a money pit, not a money maker.

BTW, the spindle is one of the easy parts.
