Pictures of My Lathe & CNC MILL

Hi, I am new to machining. I wanted to share pictures of my shop (garage). Both the mill and the lathe is made by: Sieg.

The mill is their X1 model. Very small and wish I bought a bigger mill. The lathe is their C6 model and is very nice. I remembered about wanting a bigger mill than I originally bought, so I bought the biggest lathe I can possibly afford. Would like to eventually CNC the lathe once I can save up the money.

The CNC kit for the mill came from a company in Scottland called Simply CNC.

I am heavily into radio control cars and bought these to make RC car parts. The picture with the mill CNC'ing - it is cutting a new part for buggy at the time. I keep a lot of the info on my cars on my website: http://studysession.com

So far I have been making 2D objects and CNC'ing them out. I have also been using the mill for engraving. This has been quite a learning experience for me. I still have loads to learn. I stumbled accross this forums a couple of moneth ago and found it very useful. So far everyone has been very helpful in answering my questions. I now want to share what I have and what my shop looks like.

Let me know what everyone thinks of my pictures. Thanks!!!

Way too neat! Impossible working conditions with continual fear that a chip might pop uncontrollably out of a cut and land anywhere! Just teasing you.

Are you using a regular 3 jaw drill chuck to mill with? You'd really benefit from using some kind of a solid holder or a collet chuck.

YES - for now just a 3 jaw chuck. Will get some collets as funds allow it. I have spent enough for now. All this was pruchased during 2004 within a very short time period. Need to wait before getting to much more.

The cabinets actually came out of a neighbors house that was being remodeled. And yes I do keep it clean - my paint booth is on other end of the garage. The garage is actually really small - I try and keep it neat because not to much room to walk in their to work. So keeping it cleaned up is a must.

Thanks for the kind words.

And yes I do keep it clean

Yeah well, if you keep it so clean then why do I see three crumbs or chips under the lathe in picture #3

Looks like a really nice set up you have going there

Funny - Thanks for the compliments. I have enjoyed learning how to use all this. Not just need to start getting deaper into making more and more complicated things. I have so much to learn still.

Hi studysession, if you are interested I have a cad drawing for wheels to fit the Savage 25. Could be a nice project if they will fit your T-Maxx. Nice setup too

I would love that is you don't mind. My email is: keith@studysession.com

Next year I plan on CNC'ing my lathe and getting a bigger mill. I am going to hook up with a friend and get him started with something like QCad or something. he is going to design RC parts for his MiniT and I am going to cut them on my mill. He will take the parts and use them on his MiniT when he races and we will see how they hold up there. Try to have our own line of hop-ups for the MiniT.

Thanks again!

No limit like that. Not sure why. Should work just fine. I have emailed myself 5 - 10MB files before.
