Anyone want to build a Polymer Granite machine with me?!

We were messing around a little today and came up with our future product line. Our 30"x20"x20" 10,000lb Polymer Granite VMC Base!

I think I'm gonna finish modeling it just for kicks. Right now it kind of looks like a mysterious kitchen appliance.

Good stuff!

It's the base. Epoxy Granite poured around a steel/cast iron frame.

Wink

Blurry,

We can test it for a nominal fee.

Plus we would toss in some of our goodies with the deal.

Every once awhile I get a chance to add a few things.

I never really read those threads dealing with the epoxy granite. What is the benefit? Less change with temperature? Also how much does the material cost?

It's an interesting read. The material provides better vibration dampening properties, it's easier to work with than cast iron, and there are many other beneficial characteristics. As much as I would like to spend a whole lot of time developing a machine like this, these models were just meant as a way to get some comments going.

I've worked with variations of the materials both professionally and on a hobby level, and though my exposure is limited, my impressions are very good.

This thread would probably be better titled as "EG Machine Concepts" as I wont be building another EG machine for quite awhile, especially not one this big.

We could manufature epoxy granite of any structure,it has the advantage of high vibration damping ability ;lower thermal expansion coefficient;eliminate secondary finishing and machine operation cost....I have more detailed information about this material and have get petent about this meterial in China. If you are satisfied with our material ,give me a email..

For the pouring around iron cast, do you consider the difference of thermal coneffiency? If the the difference is large, that will result breaking.

Both thermal expansion and thermal conductivity is small for non-metalli polymer products,it is one advantage than iron cast.
