Can you soak endmills in oil,for storage?

I have some large endmills/drills also some small endgraving bits. That i dont want to rust and really only use once in a blue moon.

basically i live in rust heck. saltwater,cold,rain ect ect also they're in my basement



So i was thinking can i make some little holders out of pvc or what have you. Fill the case full of oil (auto,atf anything i can find) Without hurting the cutting edges over the years? even on the smallest engraving bits?

That would be a very suitable way of storing them for long periods, just don't use used oil

I have stored small precision shafts for years in just such a manner and they are still as new.

If you are coing to put them in PVC tubes anyway, you can just coat them in a rust preventitive spray, KBC has some nice products, and put a shot of a product called Bloxygen, in the tube with it. As you guessed Bloxygen displaces the oxygen and nothing can rust at that point.

Anyway, it's less messy that oil.

If you don't want to go that far, just oil the tools and wrap them in brown paper (like a paper bag), then put them in the tube. Oiling the paper before hand helps too.
