decideing on a new 4 axis lathe...

i'm working at a small shop in arizona, we are currently in the market for a small (8 to 10 inch chuck) lathe, unfortunatly we got stuck with a milltronics machine with vdi 40 holders and i was looking for something that have full XYZ automation but uses a VDI 40 tooling system, i do not need a sub spindle or anything of that nature, mostly just cross holes wrench flatts a couple off center locking roll pins.

my problem is that the milltronics is slow sluggish 14 inch chuck small only 8 position live turret it takes forever for this thing to get rolling it only spins to 2000 rpms makes in hard to do some of the new small parts we are enginiering

i have worked with mazak mori and other fine machines, however i dont think this shop has the need for something that expensive most of our parts are brass, 304 and 1032.

i had looked at some okuma's unfortunatly there website is miserable to navigate.

oh i prefer fanuc control there so many machine manufactures i dont even know were to start looking.

thanks for any help.

Doosan, Hyundai-Kia, Hurco, and DMG all make y axis lathes. Haas is supposed to come out with one early in the new year (I won't hold my breath...). I'm pretty sure all of them have a VDI turret, other than the Doosan. I'm also in the market for a Y axis lathe, but am developing a product and it needs to sell to justify the purchase.

thats kind of where our shop is, we are r&d on a part, when its complete we will be able to justify a new lathe to produce the parts. so we need to see what our expence will be and then move forward with purchace after completion of new part testing

Take a look at the Okuma Captain and the Doosan Puma lathes. They're not cheap, but that can be had for quite a bit less than a Mori NL.
