Can this drill holder be repaired ?

Hi..

The drill holder of my FERM FM-13 table drill is defect.
Which is a big problem for me.
If i can not repair is i might need to buy a whole new table drill. (worst case)

One of the three clamps does not go into its right place.

Can this be repaired ?
Can it be opened to repair it ?
And then closed again ?
How are these types of drill holders constructed ?
Do you know a site with a drawing of what is inside this type of drill holder ?
Or do you have some search terms which might increase the chance of finding how this is constructed ?

How much would a drill holder 1.5-13 mm with cone (not screwed to drill machine) cost ?

Thanks..

Vroemm.

The outer ring (where the gear teeth are) is a press fit on the inner body (where the peg of the chuck key goes). Press the inner towards the gear teeth to remove. When you get it apart, the rest is pretty straightforward.

Chances are the split ring or jaw is damaged internally anyways. Not worth repair even if you could find the parts. I'll include a link for basics, but this method does depend on the manufacture assembly. I have repaired many and destroyed at least one very large high quality chuck that didn't come apart this way. It did come apart.....with a loud bang and several pieces going everywhere!

No indication it would be a three piece casing only a factory fixture would have been capable of removal.

Basic drill chuck repair

That looks like a $30usd chuck. It would be best to find another better quality chuck that fits the taper of the spindle nose. Either the OEM manual, the taper adapter or the chuck should usually state the taper number.

Yep works :-)
I had it in a vice, with all the strength i could give it.
Then i gently tapped with a small hammer against the outer ring, and PANG, loss it came :-)

The link in the previous message has a bad idea in it, i think.
It suggests in illustration E to press on the three thingies where the drill goes.
This would give enormous pressure on the screw threads inside.
And could damage the threads.
And it could deform the three thingies.

I did it like this:

Thanks all :-)

You are correct in not pressing on those thingies......

I have never pressed on the jaws, but they are hardened. The basic direction still applied.

Glad to see it all worked out and as luck would have it, the one jaw may have just spun enough to disengage the split ring threads if no damage was found. Good quality chucks don't usually do that unless very worn.
