Hello every one, thi sis my first post and I really need some help from all of you copper machining professionals, I am having problems with a CNC machine custom made for n=my factory that drills a 5mm hole into a solid copper block, can any one tell me what is the suitable cutting speed and feed rate for this process and is there any thing taht I can do to prevent the braeking of the drill ( it breaks after an average of 200 holes). Thank you all.

You might have better luck getting a anwser in this section ( post your tread in the listed section in this forum)

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/general_metalwork_discussion/

Its a section dedicated to machining operations to help people find how, and better ways of doing such a thing as your disscribing.

It would also help to give more info on the operation like,

How deep is the hole your drilling ?
What type of drill bit you are using ?
How many steppes are you drilling with ( starting drill size, next drill size )
What coolant/lubrication you are using?
What speeds and feeds have you tryed ?
And what was the results of these feeds/speeds ?

I cant anwser the question myself because I have not drilled any copper but if you will post it in the section I listed and give all the info you can these guys can probably help you do it better.

Good Luck, Jess

slow spindle speed, lots of coolant and lots of pecking, making sure to retract fully out of the hole to clear chips.
