Sharnoa Tiger 4 Milling Questions

Howdy Y'all,

Recently I bought a Sharnoa Tiger 4 Mill. It has been a ruff start getting this machine to operate. We bought the machine and saw it run x,y,z,and a. and the spindle rotated.

After it was installed in our shop we have had to replace a PBC, to get it to run. The table moves, x,y,z and a rotates now, but we cannot get the spindle to rotate. I'm so new to running mill equipment this has been ruff. My background is in engineering, but this machine has me stumped. The manuals we have are vague at best. I think the manuals we have are general use type manuals and not actually specific for a Tiger 4. Does anyone know where I can get one? I followed the instructions to get the spindel to rotate but nothing happens. Anyone with Tiger 4 experience please reply. I'm sure I have lots of questions that are basic to many of you.

Red looks like things are working out
Also, I'm looking to control the machine with CNC Kipware software. What special tricks do I need to do to get a program loaded onto the machine. Again, there are no instructions on getting the Tiger to respond to the laptop computer that is attached to the machine. I had a cable made for the connection between the two. I bought a USB to 25pin connector, and loaded the software on the Laptop, but I do not get any responce from Tiger 4. I need someone to walk me thru this fighting Tiger. Do I need a special cable. I had the cable built per the manual, but maybe y'all have a special trick I can do? I'm thinking about changing the cable to a 9pin(comp) to a 25pin(machine). And then double checking the computer port settings (device manager). Any input is good
.

Also does anyone know what to set in some of the CNC block codes. We have Kipware CNC software. For instance what code should I load in the Program Start-up Block on a Sharnoa Tiger 4 mill? There are sections of my CNC software that can be pre-programmed to help with creating a complete tool run in G-code. The section that can be programmed are Start Up Block, 1st Tool Start Up Block, Subsequent Tool Start Up block, Tool End Block, and Program End Block. First off I dont know g-code very well, (thusly thats why I own a software now) and I'd like to have these setting for my Sharnoa Tiger 4. I'm sure after these blocks of code are in the main CNC sofware, programing with the software will be much easier. For now I dont know where to start.

Sincerely,
Roadbikingcowboy

Howdy, This is Roadbikingcowboy

I thought it would be good to post my progress with this Tiger 4, since there might be others in the world with my simular problem.

Progress in Red

We brought in a Machine Tech (good friends), since the rest of you boys charge too much money. Haw!! Since he fixed the PCB and our X,Y,Z, and A now move, he poked his head into the panel box where all the breakers and PLC (Programable Logic Control) reside. He punched some buttons on the PLC and actualy got the spindle to rotate CW and CCW. This is good progress. When looking thru the PLC he noticed that some of the vaules are set to zero. He can get the spindle to rotate using the PLC in a manual mode, but it appears the main user control will not allow movement. He's thoughts are that when this PCB went bad, it caused a fault of some sort and zero'ed out some default numbers in the PLC. He is how looking into the PLC books before setting values. We wanted to ensure that we did not set a value wrong and burn out a 3 hp motor at the spindle.

Also, I had a cable made that is giving me Laptop comunication to the Tiger 4. its a 9-pin to 25-pin cable. First I bought a USB to 9-pin serial cable. I configured the new COM port so that when it plugs up to the computer its on COM 3. You can do this configuration thru Device Mananger in Window. The pin connections for the cable are as follows.

CNC Side (25pin) Computer Side (9pin)
1 to 9
2 to 2
3 to 3
4 to 8
5 to 7
7 to 5

Pins 6, 8 and 20 are terminated together on the 25pin.

When in the DNC software I set the communications to look for COM port 3. I have been able to test the port (software) and it passes as far as the connection. Now I'm trying to figure out how to load a program, and also how to download. Like I said before, the manuals we have for the Sharnoa are vague at best, and dont tell you want to do on the Sharnoa side to do these operations. I hate this trial and error method, so if anyone has comments please make a post.

I will keep you posted on our progress. Also, if anyone has any input it is aways needed.

Cowboy

I know this post is over a year old, But if you are still out there I would greatly appreciate talking to you. I just bought a sd850 and can't even figure out how to wire the thing up. I know its three phase 220, but thats it.
