I dont think anyone actually makes them, I ended up making my own, the only problem is that their drawings arent completely correct.

I wish I would have gotten one with the open slots on the sides rather than the holes. I cant even mill a 3" wide peice because I cant reach both ends of it no matter where I put the blocks.

I know I tried milling a slit where those holes are so I could use my regular clamps and I ended up dulling an end mill and blowing a fuse on my mill. What kinda metal are those vises made of anyhow, Titanium!!!

lol I have also heard they dont budge, they are really hard stuff. I think its just hardened steel of some sort, probably 4041 I think it is.

I have been thinking of making a bunch of them and selling them, but I have been really busy with a real machine shop, its hard to come home to my mini machine shop and work after 9hrs of it
after I finish what Im doing, maybe Ill write a program and make a batch.

I bought one from littlemachineshop.com, really nice vise!

I made my own hold downs for them also, don't know why they aren't sold with the vise

I bought a vice from LMS like that. It does have slots on the ends but not the sides. Made my hold downs from aluminum and the LMS plans, they fit my vice. Works good on a minimill with two of the clamps but on the X3 I think it needs 4. Seems to want to move if there is much force on it. Fixed that for the X3, bought a bigger/different vice and use the T-nuts to hold it. If you make them from the LMS plans, it might be a good idea to measure your vice to make sure they will fit before you cut metal. I haven't seen them for sale anywhere but it's good practice to make them yourself if you are just starting to learn to do machining.

    Replica,

As a matter of clamping principle, your hold-downs have the bolt hole quite close to the fulcrum end of your clamp. This means there is lots of clamp force on the dead end of the clamp, and only light force on the vise. Make your clamp longer, or whatever is necessary to move the clamping bolt proportionately closer to the vise.

    still no one selling these?

Its been 2 years since I originally posted this thread and I can't imagine no savy business man has cashed in on making these things.

I guess I have to make my own.

I dont think there is much in it for someone to make these and sell them, Theres another screwless vice with slots that works pretty good with much simpler clamps.
