ATC with Stationary tool

I am designing a CNC machine that has rotating job and stationary tool (e.g. vertical lathe)

But the stationary tools will be automatically changeable. The tools will be on a tool holder with ISO 30 or ISO 40 Taper Tool Holder.

I would like to know is their any commercial pneumatic tool holding mechanism available with drawber (without rotating spindle)?

I was thinking of using a pneumatic chuck but the dia of the chucks are very wide and it cannot withstand much pulling force on the till.

Any suggestions guys?

I am looking for a substitute of a ATC Spindle because I dont need the rotation of the tool also the weight and cost of the spindle would be much much higher if I use it as Powered OFF

delectrol, You might look at this for ideas: www.ame.com They sell OTT-Jacob powered drawbars etc. I believe Asia machine does as well. Typically these are rotating type but I believe you could use it as stationary as well. The hydrauli powered units might be employed by a pnuematic over hydraulic cylinder such as the Enerpac units.

maybe a set-up toolholder ,these are dummy "spindles" that are used to secure a toolholder when you are setting it up an measuring total length ,changing blades ,and so on.

I guess you should be able to find one rigid enough for the job ,but since they're ground and like tooltapers should they come quite costly unless you have commercial intents then any of your cuttingtool supliers should be able to supply you with one.

Thanks for your replies. I am thinking a commercial design. So ironDigit you can suggest any commercial brand like RICHARD.

Thanks Richard, I have seen the the power rawbar. But I am looking for a "dummy spindle" as the ironDigit has suggest. I need a full mechanism which has the CAT40 or HSK tool holder interface built in. I found one on the net at http://www.wto.de/ but I don't understand are they automatic or not.

delectrol, The WTO site says "welcome to the world of driven tools". I thought you were looking for stationary tools.

You mentioned CAT40 or HSK above. IMHO the HSK would be the better choice. I've seen both used as stationary tools on VTL's with tool changers. When an HSK 63 is compared to a CAT 40, the HSK 63 is more rigid, due to the face contact of the flange. The flange surface MUST be kept clean during tool changes for that reason.

The OTT-Jacobs system can be used stationary, I believe, and offers complete systems or components. Both ISO and HSK are available.

I'm sure there are other vendors. I'm familiar only with OTT.

yah RECHARD you are right. Although they have stationery tool holders they lack HSK or CAT interface. I should rather go for the OTT as you have suggested and I have seen they have large collections. Thanks guys this forum is helpful
